УGrodno AzotФ is planning to produce 100 thousand tons of hybrid biodiesel in 2008
Presently the company is working on increasing the capacity of the installation for biofuel production from the rape oil and methanol. This method was developed by Belorussian scientists and launched for production in August, 2007. The plant produces methyl ester after chemically processing the rape oil. This fuel can be used in diesel engines in combination with mineral fuel or pure. It is planned to produce 2 thousand tons of methyl ether per year. It is supposed that 5 thousand tons can be produced in 2008.
For manufacturing of hybrid biofuel, 5% of methyl ether is added to usual diesel fuel. Thus, using just 5 thousand tons of methyl ether it is planned to produce 100 thousand tons of hybrid biofuel in 2008.
The produced biofuel is supplied for УGrodnonefteproductФ, which sell it to different agricultural enterprises. Retail sale of this biofuel is foreseen for the future, using the network of existing gas stations.
